Joan Wilson Sangimino was born in Omaha, Nebraska. She has studied art at University of Nebraska at Omaha and Iowa Western Community College. Joan taught charcoal, pencil and India ink drawing at the College of Continuing Studies at Metro Community College, during the 1980's, and is currently offering introductory drawing classes at Hot Shops in Omaha. Joan has continued to draw, paint and sculpt, and has worked with Pediatric patients, utilizing art as therapy.
Currently, Joan has gravitated toward re-examining the Fauvist Era in art. The Fauves' primary vehicle was color, as opposed to form. This was also seen in later German Expressionism, and later, the Neo-Fauvists' work. Joan is motivated by the young, emerging artists on the local scene and the seasoned artists in the community. Joan continues to seek growth and inspiration via peers and mentors.
